Our Story

How one family’s love became a community where everyone belongs.

WHY WE EXIST

When the school bus stops coming, the world gets very quiet.

For many adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, graduation is not a beginning — it’s the moment their community disappears. The friends, the structure, the daily belonging all fall away. In their place too often come isolation, depression, and declining health.

Project id exists to fill that gap — to make sure that no one in our community ages out of belonging. We build the friendships, the purpose, and the joy that every person deserves, long after the school years end.

HOW IT BEGAN

It started with one family — and one question.

Out of the vision of one set of parents came a simple, urgent question: what will our daughter’s future look like? They wanted for her what every parent wants — friendship, purpose, growth, and a place to belong as an adult.

They weren’t alone. A group of coaches and volunteers, already devoted to this community through Special Olympics, shared the same conviction. Together, in August 2013, they founded Project id. Within a single month, a Board of Directors had formed — people from wildly different backgrounds, united by one purpose: to fill the gaps in a system that too often leaves these adults behind.

WHAT WE BUILT

One community, three ways to belong.

From that first vision, Project id grew into three programs that together give our members a full life — a place to play, a team to compete with, and a family to worship alongside.

The Wolf Den

Our recreation center — “The Den” — where members gather for games, activities, community outings, and the everyday joy of hanging out with friends who get them.

The Wolf Pack

One of the largest adult Special Olympics teams in the state. Wolfpack athletes train and compete year-round in basketball, track and field, softball, and bowling.

Friendship Church

A come-as-you-are Sunday worship service at The Den, where every member is celebrated exactly as they are — no rules to follow, just belonging, praise, and fellowship.

What We’re Built On

Project id rests on an unusual combination of four principles — together they shape a community that cares for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.
